Becoming a Scientist: Learning the Craft
The PhD is the highest level of university education and provides the skills needed to conduct research with a high degree of autonomy and openness to international dialogue.
The three-year programme is characterised by hands-on training through direct involvement in research activities, complemented by specific training courses.
Admission to PhD programmes is through a competitive Call, open to candidates holding a Laurea Magistrale (Master’s Degree), an equivalent degree awarded under the previous Italian university system, or a foreign academic qualification recognised as valid for admission purposes only.
The University of Pisa encourages the participation of international students and promotes interaction with the economic and social system, in order to strengthen the connection between research and the productive world
