Academic Background
Professor Sandro PACI earned his M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering (1982) and Ph.D. in Nuclear Plant Safety (1987) from the University of Pisa. He began his academic career at the same university in 1996 as Assistant Professor, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2004, and became Full Professor in 2019.

Research and Expertise
With nearly 40 years of experience, Prof. PACI is a recognized expert in:
Nuclear plant safety analysis
Containment thermal-hydraulics and aerosol behaviour during severe accidents in Light Water Reactors (LWRs)
Fission product and dust transport modeling both in-vessel and ex-vessel scenario for Advanced LWRs and fusion plants, as ITER and DEMO
Uncertainty quantification in severe accident modeling
Thermal analysis of Dry Casks for Spent Nuclear Fuel

Research Projects and Collaborations
Prof. PACI has contributed to numerous European and international research projects, including STORM, PHEBUS FP, THENPHEBISP, SARNET2, MUSA, and SEAKNOT, often representing the University of Pisa.
In the EURATOM MUSA project (Management and Uncertainties of Severe Accidents), he led a Work Package focused on knowledge shearing about advanced methodologies for quantifying and managing uncertainties in severe accident simulations.
In the EURATOM SEAKNOT project (Severe Accident Knowledge Consolidation, Dissemination and Networking), he coordinates a Work Package dedicated to consolidating and disseminating knowledge on severe accidents and fostering collaboration across European research institutions.
He is also actively involved in SNETP NUGENIA Technical Area 2 (TA2), contributing to the coordination of research activities on severe accident phenomena.

National Appointment
In September 2023, Prof. PACI was appointed as a member of the National Commission for the Forecasting and Prevention of Major Hazards, with a focus on nuclear and radiological risk.
