Laura Aliotta

Profilo

Ruolo: Ricercatrice a tempo determinato L.240/2010

Struttura: Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile e Industriale

Settore scientifico-disciplinare: Scienza e Tecnologia dei Materiali IMAT-01/A

Laura Aliotta gained her master degree thesis in February 2015 discussing a thesis about the effect of different nucleating agents on the crystallization kinetic of Poly(lactic acid) (PLA).
In July 2019 she earned her PhD with a thesis entitled “Development of advanced composites with tailored strength and toughness”. Nowadays, she is a senior researcher at the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering at Pisa University. Her research focuses on manufacturing process techniques for developing polymer blends and composites. She places particular emphasis on sustainable polymers and biocomposites, studying their relationship with molecular structure, morphology, and their chemical, physical, and mechanical properties. Her research work is focused to connect properties and structure of the materials, investigating also tailored theoretical analysis followed by an efficient experimental work. Her expertise involves additives migration, analytical modelling of the mechanical properties (with particular attention to fracture mechanics, creep and stress relaxation) and polymers crystallinity.

Since 2016 she is part of the Multifunctional Bio-Ecocompatible Materials Laboratory (MBEM Lab).
She has gained a lot of experience on biopolymers and biocomposites with the objective to overcome the current gap in performances between traditional plastic and sustainable desirable solutions. She has also expertise in the writing of national and European project and currently is a Principal investigator of a PRIN2022 project called EXTRAFRESCO. She teaches at Pisa University keeping several courses related to material science and composites structures. She has authored almost 70 publications in international journals and she is a patent owner regarding anti-microbial thermoplastic hot melt formulations.
