Tenuta Lab

Dialogue with local institutions and businesses is essential for promoting participatory innovation processes that focus on inclusion and quality of life.

The University of Pisa is actively engaged in the co-creation of regional projects and in developing an innovation ecosystem that involves institutions, public and private stakeholders, and international university networks.

This collaboration not only supports the University’s educational objectives but also responds to the needs expressed by public administrations, third-sector organisations and local enterprises.

Current Projects

I-Lab “Co-creation and Innovation for the Territory”

Within the activities of the Contamination Lab, this programme trains young graduates and researchers to work collaboratively with local stakeholders. The goal is to build networks among universities, public administrations, enterprises and civil society to generate shared solutions.

Co-design at the “Enrico Avanzi” Agro-Environmental Research Centre

The Centre hosts participatory design events such as the hackathons organised for students of the Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development and Climate Change.
In 2024, students guided by Professors Sonia Massari and Alessio Cavicchi developed practical proposals to enhance the sustainability, accessibility and attractiveness of the Centre. Among the ideas proposed were:

  • Educational spaces for families and children centred on agri-food themes
  • Orientation paths for adolescents and digital natives to reconnect with nature
  • A centre of excellence for research and researchers’ wellbeing
  • Empowerment programmes for women innovators in the agricultural sector

Living Lab – DETAILLs European Project

An innovative environment where students, lecturers and companies collaborate to design sustainable products using Generative Artificial Intelligence. The Living Lab promotes:

  • The application of AI-driven co-design methods
  • Collaboration between universities, businesses and students
  • Integration between research and innovation in real-life contexts
