Public Engagement

Public Engagement reflects the University’s commitment to maintaining an open, continuous and constructive dialogue with society. Through cultural, educational and social initiatives carried out on a non-profit basis, the University of Pisa makes its knowledge, expertise and creativity available to support the cultural, economic and social development of the community, engaging a broad, non-academic public.

The University of Pisa recognises Public Engagement as an essential part of its Vision: through dialogue with civil society, the University contributes to the dissemination of knowledge, the promotion of scientific and humanistic culture, and the sustainable development of the region.

The University is a member of APEnet, the Italian network of universities and research bodies promoted by the CRUI, which aims to enhance, coordinate and develop universities’ public engagement activities. The network supports the sharing of good practices, the definition of common guidelines, and the promotion of the Third Mission alongside teaching and research, with the goal of strengthening the relationship between universities and society.

All Public Engagement initiatives must be entered into the Iris-Arpi portal. Access is granted, using University credentials, to academic staff, technical-administrative and library staff, research fellows and PhD graduates.
