Alias career for students in gender transition

The University of Pisa offers students who are undertaking a gender transition and are enrolled at any level of study within the University the possibility to request the activation of an “alias career”. This includes the issue of a second Student Card, valid only within the University.

Those interested may request a preliminary meeting with the Rector’s Delegate for “Gender Studies and Equal Opportunities”, Prof. Renata Pepicelli (email: renata.pepicelli@unipi.it).

Submitting documentation

Applicants must send an email to carrierealias@unipi.it attaching the following documents:

  1. Application form (Annex 1 of the Regulations);
  2. A digital photo;
  3. A copy of their identity document.

Once the completeness and accuracy of the documents have been verified, the Teaching Directorate forwards the request and attachments to the Protocol Office, asking for registration in the restricted protocol for the competent office and, for information, to the Data Protection Officer (DPO).

Authorisation of the alias career

The DPO gives an opinion to the Delegate. If favourable, the Delegate authorises the signing of the confidentiality agreement required to activate the alias career.

Completion of the procedure

The Teaching Directorate informs the applicant of the outcome of their request and invites them to present the original of the signed confidentiality agreement to its offices (either in person or by post). The Directorate then submits the agreement for the Rector’s signature and, once returned signed by both parties, proceeds with the activation of the alias career and the issue of the new student card (and internship logbook, if required). At this stage, an operations manual is also provided.
