If the researcher benefits from the financial support of the European Union, an international organisation, another research institute or an equivalent foreign organisation for stays exceeding 90 days, the Department must follow the procedure outlined for non-EU researchers with a grant or contract awarded by an Italian University
Attention: as a researcher with “personal funds”, the template for the Hosting Agreement is the one attached here.
The researcher’s financial resources must be verified and declared by the host institution, i.e. the host Department in Pisa.
Non-EU researchers must also provide the Department with the documentation showing the monthly amount of the grant (at least EUR 975), the duration, the funding institution (their government, a university or another research organisation) and the delivery methods.
Documentation from the University or Research Institute of the foreign country, concerning the salary, grant or in any case indicative of the financial resources of the non-EU researcher or lecturer for whom the request procedure for research clearance (with personal funds) is activated, must be legalised by the Italian Diplomatic or Consular Missions abroad (in the relevant foreign State). Documents written in a foreign language must be accompanied by a certified Italian translation that complies with the foreign text, made by the competent Diplomatic or Consular mission, or by an official translator (art 33, paragraphs 2 and 3, Presidential Decree no. 445/2000).
This documentation must then be submitted in paper form when summoned to the Prefecture.
Finally, in the online application on the website of the Ministry of the Interior and in the Hosting Agreement, you must choose the option “research grant”.
In the case of a non-EU lecturer on sabbatical leave, it is recommended to contact the relevant Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence in advance, to have confirmation of the correct procedure to follow (clearance and visa for scientific research or not).
