Quacquarelli-Symonds (QS)

The ranking produced by the Quacquarelli-Symonds agency (QS) is based on 3 criteria:

  • academic performance data;
  • structural data;
  • reputational data.

The QS 2024 ranking includes 1,500 institutions, of which 42 are Italian. 

In the 2024 edition, the results of which were published in 2023, the University of Pisa was ranked 239th worldwide and 8th in Italy. 
Strengths of the University of Pisa: Sustainability (182nd place), International Research Network (209th place), and Academic reputation (211th place). 

In addition to the global one, QS also draws up a ranking by subject: Here are the subjects assessed, grouped into 5 sectors.  

In the 2023 edition, the University of Pisa appears in 27 of the 54 disciplines considered for the ranking (covering all macro areas).

In 23 of these disciplines, it ranks among the top 10 in Italy. In particular, the University of Pisa was:

  • 1st in Italy and 40th worldwide for Veterinary;
  • 3rd in Italy and 22nd worldwide for Classics and Ancient History;
  • 3rd in Italy and in the 51st to 100th place in Archaeology;
  • 5th in Italy and 93rd worldwide for Physics.
