Course details

The Tenuta Lab: Social Innovation Bootcamp is a transdisciplinary program designed to foster responsible entrepreneurship, rural innovation, and sustainable food system solutions. Tenuta Lab, located at the historic Suvignano estate – confiscated from the mafia and reclaimed by the State – serves as a powerful symbol of legal resilience and territorial regeneration. The bootcamp engages participants in an immersive learning experience at the intersection of agrifood, social innovation, and ethical business development.

Format: Hybrid (BIP).

Target audience: MA and PhD students

Dates:
In-person date (start to end): 9-13 June 2025
Online date (start to end): 3 meetings in the second half of May 2025, and one follow-up meeting in the second half of June 2025. Dates to be communicated.

ECTS: 5. The recognition of academic credits is entirely at the discretion of the home university. We suggest contacting your department representative for more information on this matter.

Evaluation: Participants will be evaluated both individually and as a group at the end of the programme.

Number of students from each Uni partner: Min 3 / max 6.

Language: English.

Main Learning Outcomes

Objectives

The program aims to:

  1. Develop Sustainable and Ethical Business Models – Exploring new approaches to food entrepreneurship and rural revitalization through circular economy principles and regenerative practices.
  2. Foster Collaborative Problem-Solving – Engaging a diverse cohort of PhD students, researchers, practitioners, and local stakeholders in the co-creation of solutions that bridge urban-rural divides.
  3. Enhance Social Impact through Innovation – Leveraging design thinking, experiential learning, and fieldwork to generate scalable, community-driven strategies.

Methodology

Participants will engage in a hybrid learning environment that integrates:

  • Field-based research and hands-on activities in agrifood systems, entrepreneurship, and community-led projects.
  • Workshops and mentorship sessions with leading scholars, designers, and industry experts.
  • Collaborative design sprints to prototype solutions with a strong ethical and environmental impact.

 

Expected Outcomes

The bootcamp will generate tangible results, including:

  • Innovative business concepts and policy recommendations for rural development.
  • Pilot projects that strengthen social cohesion and economic sustainability in agrifood.
  • A network of professionals, scholars, and changemakers dedicated to long-term community impact.
