Born on June 1st, 1987 in La Spezia (Italy).
Study data: 2012 Master's degree in Agricultural Biotechnology at the University of Florence, final mark 110/110 with honor. 2016: PhD in Agriculture, Food and Environment from University of Pisa.
Since January 2025, she has been an associate professor of Plant Genetics at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment of the University of Pisa.
The principal aim of her investigation is to characterise the non-coding component of the genomes of plants of commercial interest (such as sunflower, poplar, olive, fig and wheat) with a particular focus on the repetitive component and the emergence of new genes. The characterisation of repetitive DNA is of great relevance in plant science: not only to define genome structure more precisely but also to decipher the role of repetitive elements in the evolution of such species, clarifying aspects concerning plant domestication. Her research trajectory includes not only state-of-the-art bioinformatics analyses but also different in vitro assays to validate the outcomes of genomic searches. The research activity consisted of several research papers in ISI journals.
Since April 2024, she has been an Assistant Editor for Molecular Biology and Evolution.
She is Review Editor for Plant Bioinformatics (specialty section of Frontiers in Plant Science) and ad hoc reviewer for several ISI journals: MBE, Scientific data, Genetica, BMC Genomics, and Planta.
