Armando V. Razionale is Full Professor of Design and Methods for Industrial Engineering at the School of Engineering of the University of Pisa. He received a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Pisa in 2001, with a thesis titled “Experimental Analysis of Contact Problems by Photo-elastic Technique”. In 2005 he received a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at University of Pisa with a thesis titled “Optical Methodologies for 3D Shapes Measuring”. From 2005 to 2015 he has been Assistant Professor and from 2015 to 2020 Associate Professor at University of Pisa for the scientific field of Design and Methods for Industrial Engineering. He teaches “Industrial Technical Drawing” for Aerospace Engineer and for Management Engineer, “Industrial Product Design” for “Engineering for Industrial Design”. He is the Chairman of the Council of the bachelor’s degree in “Engineering for Industrial Design”. He is a member of the Councils of the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Management Engineer, Aerospace Engineer and of the PhD in SmartIndustry and in Industrial Engineering. His research activity is focused on design methods by CAD/CAE systems, optical technologies for 3D scanning, optical methods for mechanical and biomedical design, Design for Additive Manufacturing, and Virtual Reality for biomedical rehabilitation and is documented by more than 100 technical papers on international journals and congress proceedings.

Interessi di ricerca

Research is focused on Reverse Engineering, CAD/CAE, Image Processing for Computer Vision, 3D Medical Imaging, and Design for Additive Manufacturing.
3D structured light techniques were developed for complex shape acquisition in industrial and biomedical contexts using multimedia projectors and digital cameras. Calibration techniques for optical device parameters were created and assessed.
CAD-CAE methodologies were utilized for precise modeling of human anatomies, aiding diagnostics and clinical treatments, particularly reconstructing maxilla-facial structures by integrating optical and tomographic data for designing patient-specific devices.
Current interests include designing for Additive Manufacturing with flexible 3D printers for industrial and biomedical applications.
The research has resulted in over 120 publications in international journals and conferences.
