Profilo

Ruolo: Professore Associato

I received my Bachelor (2005), Master (2007) and PhD (2011) degrees in Chemical Sciences from the University of Perugia (Italy).
I stayed in the same University as a postdoctoral researcher until 2014, also spending a three-month period as a visiting scholar at the University of California, San Diego (USA) in 2013.
I then moved to Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland) in 2015, spending there two years as a postdoctoral resarcher.
In 2017, I joined Swansea University (UK) with a three-year MSCA Cofund Fellowship. During this time, I was also awarded an EPSRC First Grant.
From 2020 to 2022, I was a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Pisa (Italy).
Since 2023, I am an Associate Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Pisa.

My research interests lie in the field of materials chemistry, with a focus on the synthesis of porous materials (mainly metal-organic frameworks), their structural characterisation using diffraction and spectroscopic techniques, and their application as solid adsorbents for gas separations, most notably carbon dioxide capture.
Main areas of activity include: 1. development of new porous metal phosphonates; 2. zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks, with emphasis on their defect chemistry; 3. (per-)fluorinated metal-organic frameworks; 4. new synthetic approaches for the preparation of known metal-organic frameworks.

I am the author of more than 50 articles in international, peer reviewed Journals and 3 book chapters. I have given eight invited lectures and have contributed 14 oral communications at national and international conferences.
In 2017, I co-founded novoMOF, a Swiss-based company that manufactures and commercialises metal-organic frameworks, for which I currently serve as a scientific advisor.
In 2018, I organised the first European Workshop on Metal Phosphonate Chemistry in Swansea. Two more editions of the event took place in 2019 (Berlin, D) and 2021 (Liblice, CZ). The fourth edition will take place in 2023 in Crete, Greece.
In 2019, my work was featured in the Emerging Investigators Themed Issue of the Journal of Materials Chemistry.
In 2022, I was awarded the Nasini Medal of the Inorganic Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society and the Nardelli Prize of the Italian Crystallographic Association.
