Degree in Agricultural Science and PhD in Animal Science. He is associate professor in Animal Science at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment of University of Pisa. His research activity was focused on 1) milk and cheese quality, particularly on fatty acid composition and on nutritional and functional properties of dairy fat; 2) meat quality and influence of feeding and farming systems on fatty acid composition of intramuscular fat, also adopting nutrigenetic approaches; 3) principal factors affecting lipid oxidation; 4) effect of genetic and environmental factors on milk fat composition; 5) study of the effects of genetic polymorphisms on milk fatty acid composition; 6) effect of diet on ruminal population ; 7) sustainable livestock systems and mitigation of the environmental effects, with emphasis on methane emission.
The research activity consisted of 105 research or congress papers . The papers on ISI journals accounted for 1806 citations and resulted in an H index equal to 26 (at 23/01/2023).
Scientific responsibilities
From 2014 to present he participated to the following scientific study commissions for the National Association of Animal Science and Production (ASPA):
Statistic methodology and experimental design (participant);
Adaptability of animal system to climate change"(participant).
He acts as reviewer for several ISI journals: ITALINA JOURNAL OF ANIMAL SCIENCE, JOURNAL OF DAIRY RESEARCH, LIVESTOCK SCIENCE, INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF BIODIVERSITY AND CONSERVATION, SMALL RUMINANT RESEARCH, IRANIAN JOURNAL OF ANIMAL SCIENCE.
