Prof. Diego La Mendola is Full Professor at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Catania and has over 20 years of experience in bioinorganic and medicinal chemistry. His research focuses on coordination chemistry, peptide-metal interactions, and the development of biomimetic systems for applications in neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and angiogenesis.
He has published over 120 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has coordinated and participated in several national and international research projects, including collaborations with institutions in Sweden, Hungary, South Africa, and France.
His international research experience includes multiple visiting periods at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), where he conducted advanced spectroscopic studies on metalloproteins and peptide complexes. He has also been involved in Erasmus+ teaching activities and has delivered invited lectures at mnational and international conferences.
Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Interuniversity Consortium CIRCMSB. He is also a board member of the Inorganic Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society and acts as an expert evaluator for several international research funding bodies, including the Romanian National Council for Research, the Austrian Science Fund and the Jean-Marie Lehn Foundation.
His teaching portfolio includes undergraduate and graduate courses in General and Inorganic Chemistry across several degree programs in the University of Pisa and previously at the University of Catania.
