University for Peace Network (RUniPace)

The University of Pisa has joined RUniPace, the network of Italian Universities for Peace, promoted by the Conference of Rectors of Italian Universities. The initiative was proposed by the Rector of the University of Pisa, Paolo Mancarella, and by the Rector of the University of Brescia, Maurizio Tira.

The Network brings together universities that base their activities on the principles of the Italian Constitution, the Charter of the United Nations, the Treaties establishing the European Union, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe.

Italian universities have a great wealth of research, training and third mission activities on the themes of positive peace and human rights, a heritage that the Network aims to systematise and turn into a collective heritage. The aim is to promote non-violence as an approach to conflict management and to foster a culture of dialogue, respect, inclusion, solidarity and sharing. These values are rooted in the constitutional principles of human dignity, freedom, justice and democracy.

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Peace Sciences (CISP) is responsible for coordinating the network.
