SAR – Scholars at Risk

Since its foundation, the University of Pisa has been a member of the Italian section of the Scholars at Risk (SAR) network, an international network established in 1999 that now includes 540 higher education institutions in 40 countries around the world, with the aim of promoting academic freedom and protecting the fundamental rights of scholars worldwide.

SAR Italia was established in 2019 and today has 27 members, including universities, research institutes and academic associations operating in the country. The organisation of the Italian section is coordinated by a national body and an elected Steering Committee.
