PRIMA – Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area build research and innovation capacities and to develop knowledge and common innovative solutions for agro-food systems and for integrated water provision and management in the Mediterranean area.

 

PRIMA consists of a number of EU member countries (Croatia, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain) and Horizon 2020 Associated Countries and Mediterranean Partner Countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey).

 

The partnership was financed through a combination of funding from PRIMA Participating States and from the EU through Horizon 2020.

 

With its five financed projects (one in 2018 and four in 2019) the University of Pisa stands out as one of the most “successful” entities that applied to the first two rounds of calls. Please find below the short descriptions of the University of Pisa’s projects financed within PRIMA:

Self-sufficient Integrated Multi-Trophic AquaPonic system combining saltwater hydroponic production in greenhouses and in-land aquaculture. SIMTAP can re-use brackish water from open-loop hydroponics, in a cascade effect recycling the nutrients
