The University of Pisa expresses its deep concern for the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza. In July, the central governing bodies of the University adopted official resolutions on this matter, launching specific initiatives which have received wide attention in both local and national media.
In this framework, humanitarian corridors have also been established to allow Palestinian students to be received in Pisa in the near future. Against this background, the University of Pisa fully supports the humanitarian initiative undertaken by the Global Sumud Flotilla.
The University firmly calls for no act of violence to be committed against the men and women on board the vessels – individuals of all ages, from many different countries, taking part in a peaceful and non-violent mission aimed at demonstrating tangible solidarity with the Palestinian population by delivering food, water, medicines, and clothing.
The use of weapons by the Israeli army against unarmed civilians would represent yet another grave violation of international law, for which responsibility would rest with the current Israeli government.
