Humanitarian corridors with Palestine: the first student enrolled at the University of Pisa arrives in Italy

Arriving from Gaza, she will begin classes in the Department of Earth Sciences on 6 October. Three more Palestinian students are expected in the coming weeks

On the evening of 1 October, the first Palestinian student welcomed by the University of Pisa through the humanitarian corridors arrived at Ciampino Military Airport. The initiative was launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) and the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI), in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Jerusalem. Welcoming her on arrival was Giovanni Federico Gronchi, Vice-Rector for Cooperation and International Relations. The student will reach Pisa in the coming days and, from 6 October, will begin attending the English-language Master’s degree course in “Exploration and Applied Geophysics” at the Department of Earth Sciences.

Through the same humanitarian corridor, another student will arrive in Pisa in the coming weeks to attend the “International Programme in Humanities” at the Department of Philology, Literature and Linguistics. Two students from the West Bank are also expected to arrive under the “Corridoi universitari pisani per la Palestina” project, established through an agreement between the University of Pisa and the Croce Rossa Italiana. They will enrol in the English-language Master’s degree course in “Economics” (Department of Economics and Management) and “Data Science and Business Informatics” (Department of Computer Science).
