First graduates in Clinical psychology and Behavioural sciences at the University of Pisa

Five students awarded new qualification granting direct access to the profession of psychologist

On 22 July, the University of Pisa held the first graduation session for its Master’s Degree Course in Clinical Psychology and Behavioural Sciences, awarding degrees to five students: Martina Alaimo, Elena Campione, Alessia La Corte, Vittoria Telesca and Alice Valentini. They are the first graduates to complete a study programme that includes direct qualification for the profession of psychologist, in line with recent regulatory changes. This innovation allows graduates to enter the profession immediately, without the need to sit additional State Examination for qualification.

Launched in the 2023/2024 academic year and based in the Department of Surgical, Medical, Molecular and Critical Area Pathology, the course is structured over two years and includes a strong focus on professional practice, particularly in the field of clinical and mental health. It includes supervised professional training placements with experienced psychologists, and concludes with a final exam that serves both as a Master’s degree assessment and as a professional qualification.

This first group of graduates represents a significant milestone in the implementation of the new educational framework, which the University of Pisa adopted to align with European standards and respond to the evolving role of the psychologist. The programme is designed to train professionals to work in clinical, hospital, community and psychosocial settings, promoting a scientific, integrated and person-centred approach.
