The University of Pisa’s E-Team Squadra Corse unveils ET-18, its new electric race car

The University of Pisa’s E-Team Squadra Corse has officially unveiled ET-18, the team’s new electric single-seater race car, designed and built entirely by University students. The launch event brought together faculty members, partners, sponsors and guests to celebrate the outcome of months of intensive design and development.

During the presentation, the team showcased the car’s main technical innovations, the result of a major engineering effort. Among the most significant design changes is the switch from 13-inch to 10-inch wheels, a modification that required an almost complete redesign of the vehicle. The suspension system has been entirely re-engineered, while the aerodynamics have been extensively refined to enhance the car’s overall performance.

The electrical and electronic systems have also undergone major improvements. The team designed and built both the low- and high-voltage battery packs in-house, together with a new electronic architecture. In addition, the two EMRAX electric motors have been further optimised through dedicated power delivery studies aimed at improving both efficiency and on-track performance.

ET-18 will now compete in the 2026 Formula Student season, with the E-Team taking part in three of the most prestigious events on the international calendar: Formula Student Spain in Barcelona (1–7 August), Formula Student Alpe Adria in Croatia (18–24 August), and Formula Student Italy in Varano de’ Melegari (2–6 September).

The event concluded with a session dedicated to the partners and sponsors supporting the project. The contribution of companies, institutions and local organisations is essential in enabling students to develop a highly competitive race car and compete against Europe’s leading university teams.

With ET-18, the E-Team Squadra Corse enters a new racing season determined to build on the progress achieved in recent years and to represent the University of Pisa in international Formula Student competitions, showcasing its students’ engineering expertise, design capabilities and teamwork.
