September 2025 will be particularly rich in international events for the University of Pisa, with three major initiatives organised within Circle U., the strategic alliance that brings together nine prestigious European universities. These initiatives are designed to offer students from Master’s Degree courses and PhD courses, post-doctoral students and young scholars concrete opportunities to interact, share knowledge and build networks with academics from all over Europe. Participation not only deepens academic expertise but also fosters educational experiences that contribute to both personal and professional development.
From 3 to 9 September, it will be the turn of “Sensory Neuroscience – NEUROBRIDGE”, a Summer School entirely dedicated to understanding sensory systems, with a particular focus on perception mechanisms. The initiative involves an intensive programme that combines lectures with hands-on activities and guided visits to laboratories and research centres of excellence, with a multidisciplinary learning approach. It is mainly aimed at students enrolled in Master’s Degree courses and researchers at the beginning of their scientific career, who wish to deepen their knowledge of neuroscience in an international context. To participate, students must submit an updated CV and a motivational letter by 30 June.
The Summer School “Towards Human-Centered, Inclusive, and Equitable Artificial Intelligence” will take place from 15 to 19 September and will offer an intensive English-language programme awarding 3 university credits. This Summer School provides students with a critical and interdisciplinary approach to examine the development of human-centered, fair and accessible AI systems. It is designed for PhD students, post-doctoral students, and scholars in the fields of artificial intelligence, applied ethics, and social sciences. The programme includes seminars, workshops and project discussion sessions. The deadline for applications is 26 June.
Finally, the workshop entitled “Constitutional Courts and Electoral Integrity” will take place on 24 September, as part of the Jean Monnet module “Promoting and strengthening EU values”. It will explore the role of constitutional courts in defending democratic processes and electoral transparency. The event will bring together scholars, judges, and postgraduate students for a series of discussions and case studies, offering a comparative perspective on this current issue in the European context. The workshop is specifically aimed at PhD students and young researchers in the fields of constitutional and comparative law, as well as political sciences. Applications, consisting of an abstract and a CV, must be submitted by 30 June.
These three experiences are different in content but share a strong focus on quality and internationalisation, representing a valuable opportunity to develop versatile skills, engage in interdisciplinary dialogue, and thoughtfully navigate the challenges of the contemporary academic and professional world. Participating means embracing a vision of education that extends beyond the classroom, becoming part of a broad, dynamic, and European learning community.
