Italian Language Proficiency Test

The University of Pisa is obliged to test the Italian language proficiency - B2 Level, according to the QCER-Quadro comune europeo di riferimento per la conoscenza delle lingue (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) of non-EU candidates applying for study VISA and willing to enroll in a Degree programme in Italian language.

To be exempted from taking the Italian Language Proficiency Test (see the section “Exemption from the language proficiency test” below), candidates should upload on the Universitaly web portal their Italian Language Proficiency Certificate of at least B2 Level of the Council of Europe, awarded according to the CLIQ-Certificazione Lingua Italiana di Qualità (Italian Quality Language Certification), along with the other relevant documents for the pre-enrolment application.

If holding no Italian Language Proficiency certificate, candidates will have to take remotely (TEST@CASA) the ITALIAN-L2 test (in short “TEST ITA-L2”) provided by CISIA-Consortium.

Before the scheduled test date, CISIA-Consortium will send all the information about test procedures and methods to the email address provided during the pre-enrolment phase on Universitaly web portal.

For the academic year 2021/2022 ITALIAN-L2 test is scheduled as follows:

  • 26 July 2021
  • 17 September 2021
  • 7 October 2021

If failing the ITALIAN-L2 test, candidates are allowed to enroll “under condition” and submit by the mandatory deadline of 30 September 2022 either an Italian Language Proficiency (B2 level) certificate or, alternatively, a University certification stating that at least two first-year exams in Italian language of the degree programme have been passed.

Failing submission of one of the aforementioned two certificates by the mandatory deadline will lead to the automatic suspension of studies and to following penalties.

For pre-enrolment in degree programmes held in English, the Italian language proficiency is not required. Please check the language admission requirements on the relevant degree programme.
