Italian Language Proficiency Test

It is mandatory for the University to verify the B2 level competence in the Italian language (CEFR-Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) for foreign candidates who require entry visas to Italy for long-term stays intending to enrol in a Degree programme in Italian language.

Candidates who demonstrate possession of a certificate of competence in Italian which is no lower than level B2 of the Council of Europe as issued under the CLIQ quality system, who upload this certification among the documents required to accompany the application for pre-enrolment on the Universitaly Portal, will be exempted from the verification of knowledge of the Italian language (see on this page the following paragraph "Cases of exemption from the verification of the Italian language").

Candidates who do not hold any certification must pass the ITALIAN-L2 TEST remotely (at home TEST@CASA). The minimum score required for candidates to pass the TEST is 48.

The ITALIAN-L2 test for the academic year 2022/2023 are as follows:

So remember to check your email inbox regularly.

The ITALIAN-L2 TEST must be taken exclusively on one of the dates that will be established by the University of Pisa and will not be repeatable.

The ITALIAN-L2 TEST obtained at one of the Italian universities consortium with CISIA can also be considered valid for enrolment at the University of Pisa, provided that it has been passed with a minimum score of 48.

Candidates who have not passed the ITALIAN - L2 TEST can still enrol "under condition" and deliver, by September 30, 2023, a certification/attestation of knowledge of the Italian language at a B2 level or, alternatively, a certification from the University that certifies the passing of at least two exams in Italian in the first year of the course of study. In the event that the students enrolled "under condition" do not deliver one of the two certifications by the indicated deadline, their university career will be suspended ex officio with the consequent penalties.

In the case of pre-enrolment in a course of study provided in English, certification of knowledge of the Italian language is not necessary. It is recommended, however, to consult the language requirements for admission on the website of the course of interest.
