From Unipi to ENI: Lucia Calvosa is at the head of the energy group

The nomination was made official today. She will remain in office until 2022

The news broke some time ago, but now it is official: Lucia Calvosa is the new president of ENI. The decision was endorsed today during the energy group’s ordinary and extraordinary Shareholders’ Meeting together with the 2019 budget approval. The new Board of Directors, chaired by the professor from the University of Pisa, will remain in office until 2022.

Lucia Calvosa, a professor in Commercial Law at the University of Pisa, replaces Emma Marcegaglia who held the office for two terms. She is flanked by the members of the Board of Directors; Claudio Descalzi, Ada Lucia De Cesaris, Filippo Giansante, Pietro Angelo Mario Antonio Guindani, Karina Audrey Litvack, Emanuele Piccinno, Nathalie Tocci and Raphael Louis L. Vermeir.

“I have known Lucia Calvosa personally for many years,” commented the Rector Paolo Mancarella, “and I have always appreciated her intellect and dedication to our university. I am proud that a woman from the University of Pisa will play such a fundamental role for the country. I wish Lucia all the best in this new and important professional venture.”

Lucia Calvosa was born in Rome on 26 June 1961. She is a professor in Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Law at the Department of Economics and Management at the University of Pisa, where she also taught Private Law and Banking Law for a number of years. She was also president of the degree course in Economics and Commerce at the University of Pisa for two terms and she is still a member of the Academic Board for the PhD in ‘Company Law, International and European Law, Rules of Procedure’. She is also president of the Scientific Educational Committee of the Chartered Accountant Association Alto Tirreno and a member of the Committee for National Scientific Habilitation, assessing full and associate professors of Commercial Law.

Over the years, Lucia Calvosa has carried out studies and research at the Institute for Comparative Law, Conflict of Laws and International Business Law at Heidelberg University, as well as participating actively in numerous national and international conferences.

Throughout her long managerial career, Professor Calvosa has been a member of the Board of Directors of the 'Fondazione Teatro di Pisa’, of the Arpa Foundation, of the Pisa Chamber of Commerce and of the ‘Fondazione Pisa’. From 2008 to 2011 she was the president of the Cassa di Risparmio di San Miniato SpA. From August 2011 to May 2019 she was a member of the Independent Board of Directors of TIM SpA and from 2014 held the position of President of the Control and Risk Committee. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Banca Monte dei Paschi from 2015 to 2017 and is currently on the Board of Directors of Crescita SpA and of Editoriale Il Fatto SpA.

In 2005, the University of Pisa conferred on her the Order of the Cherub which is the highest form of academic recognition awarded by the University of Pisa. In 2010, she received the UNESCO medal. In 2012, she was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Among her most recent honours there is also the Ambrogio Lorenzetti prize for good governance in business.
