ArchAIDE, the first app to place artificial intelligence and technology at the disposal of archaeologists, has won the ‘Heritage in Motion Awards’. Each year this competition rewards the best multimedia projects and products which can be used in and draw attention to the value of Europe’s cultural heritage. ArchAIDE arises from the European project of the same name coordinated by the University of Pisa and was the sole Italian finalist, coming first in the ‘App’ category.

The award ceremony was held in Ljubljana on 20th September and the prize was collected by Gabriele Gattiglia and Francesca Anichini from the MAPPA laboratory of the University of Pisa.
“Image recognition and 3D modelling technology, just like big data and open-source, are placed at the disposal of archaeology,” emphasised the jury of the award in its motivations. “This app has the potential to evolve into an extremely useful and innovative tool.”

The ‘Heritage in Motion Awards’ is promoted by the European Museum Academy (EMA) and Europa Nostra and backed by Europeana.
