Marco Polini, Full Professor of the Physics of Matter at the University of Pisa, has been included for the fourth consecutive year among the “Highly Cited Researchers 2023”, the Clarivate Analytics ranking of researchers who have demonstrated significant influence in their field of research. Specifically, the ranking selects researchers whose articles rank among the top one per cent most cited for their discipline. On a worldwide basis, Highly Cited Researchers are 1 in 1,000. Clarivate’s 2023 ranking selected a total of 7,125 of them.

Marco Polini is co-author of over 220 publications in international journals, including Physics Today, Science, Nature Physics, Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Photonics, Nature Communications and Physical Review Letters. His current research focuses on the study of strongly correlated electron systems in moiré crystals, the development of quantum batteries, cavity quantum electrodynamics of strongly correlated electron systems, and 2D magnetic materials.

He is co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of the spin-off Planckian.

In 2023, Polini was appointed as “Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) in the Division of Condensed Matter Physics (DCMP). The APS fellowship programme identifies members who have made outstanding contributions to physics research. The number of annual “Fellows” does not exceed 0.5% of the total number of APS members in that year, excluding students. The following is given as justification for Professor Polini’s nomination: “For his contributions to the theory of interacting electrons in solids, including the theory of electron hydrodynamics in graphene”.
