From the laboratory to the distant universe, the World of Plasmas

A plasma physics International Summer School in collaboration with Sorbonne Université (Paris, France).  It will be held at the end of August in Roscoff (Brittany, France).  About 25 students will be hosted selected by their CV by Prof. Philippe Savoini (Director) and by Prof. F. Califano (deputy Director).
Lectures and hands-on will be given during five entire days and will cover almost all main plasma physics arguments.
Sessions on:

  • Introduction to Plasma Physics
  • Astrophysical Plasmas
  • Spectroscopy : foundations and applications for diagnostic
  • Symbiosis between plasmas and technologies
  • Plasmas for Energy and Fusion (Tokamak and other Devices)
  • Plasma for Environment
  • Laser generated Plasmas
  • Plasma physics as an innovative opportunity for space propulsion

Should the restrictions on student mobility and on-site teaching activities persist, the program will be activated in distance learning mode.
Should it be necessary to activate the Summer School online, more information on the program will be published in April 2021.

The School aims at introducing the students to the basics of plasma physics in any state, from Laboratory to the distant universe.
Theoretical lectures and hand-on on are given about the most relevant plasma physics subjects: space and astrophysical plasmas, laboratory plasmas, laser-plasma, interaction, cold plasmas, industrial applications.
The School is targeting students entering the master level and try to cover the lack of training in plasma physics during the rst three years of University studies in Physics, but can also be appreciated by master students to broaden their horizon.

Who can apply

Bachelor's Degrees students but also Master's Degrees students are welcome to broaden their horizon in Physics.
