The Winter School in Osteoarchaeology and Paleopathology – Online Edition is an academic program launched to train students in osteoarchaeology and paleopathology.
The course comprises daily intensive lectures on archaeothanatology, human skeletal anatomy, anthropological methods for sex and age at death estimation, anthropometry, skeletal and dental stress markers, dental paleopathology and entheseal changes with the aim at providing a broad overview on topical areas of bioarchaeological research.
Attendants will have the chance to gain experience with the analysis of various skeletal pathologies, including infectious diseases, traumatic lesions, and neoplasms.
The Winter School will take place over 3 weeks for about 4 hours per day (52 hours in total); lectures will be held by the experienced staff of the Division of Paleopathology through the streaming platform Microsoft Teams, in order to permit students to learn the basics of physical anthropology, bioarchaeology and paleopathology disciplines necessary to approach osteological analyses.
The school will be entirely held online, via Microsoft Teams.
Aim
The course is designed to provide all attendants with an in-depth theoretical knowledge of osteoarchaeology and paleopathology and how to approach the study of ancient human skeletal remains. Biological profile reconstruction is aimed at obtaining the greatest amount of information regarding the interaction of past communities with their sociocultural environment in order to elucidate general life and health conditions.

Students in Physical Anthropology, Archaeology, Forensic Science, Paleopathology and allied disciplines at undergraduate and graduate levels.
