Enabling Technologies for industrial Internet of Things

 The 3d Edition of the Summer School “Enabling Technologies for Industrial Internet of Things” is organized to offer about 50 hours of front lessons in the field of electronics, electromagnetics and ICT for Internet of Things (IoT), targeting an audience of Master and PhD students, early stage researchers and practitioners with a background on circuits and systems.

The summer school provides theoretical and practical (with hands-on CAD session) lessons about recent advances in enabling technologies, electronics and electromagnetics, for future wireless transceivers, systems and networks in scenarios such as IoT, Industry 4.0 and Cyber-Physical-Systems (CPS). Wireless circuits and systems and internet technology are becoming pervasive in many applications fields such as logistic (e.g. RF identification), vehicle industry (e.g. connected cars, advanced driver assistance systems, V2V and V2I wireless communications, radar, lidar), automation in industrial or domotic scenarios (e.g. wireless sensor and actuator networks), smart manufacturing (e.g. industry 4.0), health&wellness (e.g. wireless wearable sensing and biomedical circuits).

Aim

Lessons will be held at the Aula Magna of the School of Engineering, University of Pisa, exploiting all facilities available in terms of conference rooms and labs. The official language will be English.

A final exam is foreseen. After passing the exam the University of Pisa will register the course as an official exam of 6 ETCS (European Credit Transfer System). Indeed, the school has got already an accreditation at European level being part of the network of European Summer Schools.

The 2016 and 2017 Summer school Editions were a success since about 30 students/year from about 20 different nations (Germany, France, Brazil, India, Italia, Sweden, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, Morocco, Ecuador, South Korea, Ghana, Iraq), participated to lessons held by Professors from University of Pisa, Pavia and Modena Reggio-Emilia in Italy,
from University of Kiel in Germany,
from Rovira I Virgili University of Tarragona in Spain,
from Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble in France,
discussing the new technological and educational trends in the fields of electronics, electromagnetism and communications for IoT.
All students passed the final exam (registered).
During the summer school an IoT Industry special day is held, involving speakers from big international companies (STMicroelectronics, Anritsu, Keysight, Linear Technology, IDS, Lfoundry, Intel,...) and from Small Medium Enterprises (Cubit, Zerynth, SinTau, PurePowerControl,...).
As special guest in 2017 we had Federico Faggin, the father of the microprocessor, and Franco Maloberti, President of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society.
