Master's degree/Laurea magistrale

Non-European citizens who live abroad and who wish to enrol in a Master’s degree programme at the University of Pisa must go to the Italian Embassy/Consulate of their country and request the pre-enrolment Form A along with the following documents:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent of a first level academic degree
  • University transcript with all the courses taken (Diploma supplement if available).

If your pre-application request has been accepted:

  • connect to the web site Portale Alice, register your personal data and the selected Degree Programme, then follow the instructions (available only in Italian).

You will then need to bring in person and deliver the following documents to the "Welcome International Students!" (WIS!) office:

  • the original version or an authenticated copy of Bachelor's Degree or equivalent of a first level academic degree, officially translated into Italian and legalized by the Italian authorities in the country in which they were issued (or with Apostille)
  • the Declaration of Value (DV) of your Bachelor’s degree, issued by the Italian authorities in your country. Please include a photocopy.
  • an official University transcript with a list of courses taken, legalized and translated into Italian
  • passport photo;
  • a special stamp (marca da bollo) of 16 euros (which you can buy at a "Tabacchino" shop)
  • original passport and photocopy
  • copy of the Residency Permit or copy of the Post Office receipt which declares that you have already applied for the Residency Permit (you must bring the original Residency Permit or the original post office receipt)
  • receipt of payment of the first instalment: € 407.00 (issued to the postcode no. 150565 and addressed to the University of Pisa, description: RA117) or the receipt of your application to a DSU scholarship in case you meet the necessary criteria.

PLEASE note that in order to enrol in a Master’s degree programme or to request recognition of some of your previous courses, the academic committee of the selected programme may additionally ask you for the course descriptions. For more information, please visit:

It is also important to know that:

• If you enrol in a Master’s degree programme (laurea magistrale), admission depends on the possession of specific academic requirements. To learn about these requirements, please visit the webpages which contains this information as well as the list of degree programmes available, and look for the section which corresponds to the degree you are interested in. If you need a preliminary assessment of your current degree, you may send an email to the President of the degree programme you are interested in.
• If you enrol in a degree programme taught in English (Master's degree), we recommend you visit the dedicated webpage to learn about the procedure, deadlines and academic requests necessary for admission.
• You may directly ask the President of the degree programme if you can submit your University transcript with all the courses taken as well as the content description of each course in the original language.

Acceptance of pre-enrolment request

To find out if your pre-enrolment request has been accepted, you must directly contact the Italian diplomatic authorities of your country.

Please note that, without exception, you must submit all documents to the WIS! in their original format with their corresponding photocopy accompanied by an official translation into Italian and legalized (or with an Apostille).

For the a.y. 2017/2018, the WIS! office will be open starting on 27th July until 4th August and then from 23th August until 6th October from 9am to noon.

Foreign students who intend to enrol at the University of Pisa after 6th October, 2017 must send an email at Questo indirizzo email è protetto dagli spambots. The deadline to complete the enrolment procedure for the a.y. 2017/2018 is 2nd October, 2017. It will still be possible to enrol until 29th December, 2017

The Italian language test

The test will take place on 1st September, 2017 (information about the place and time will be available in the month of August). Please note that this test is mandatory for all non-EU citizens who reside abroad and who have done the pre-enrolment procedure through the Italian authorities of their country.

You are exempt from taking the Italian language test if:

  • you hold a certificate attesting to your knowledge of the language certificate – of at least a B2 level
  • you are applying for admission to programmes taught in English
  • you belong to one of the categories specified by the Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR).
