The\u202fPolo Universitario Penitenziario di Pisa<\/strong> (PUP) is a place where knowledge overcomes barriers, opening up new prospects to facilitate the growth and redemption of those who have been incarcerated.<\/p>\n

The objective is to provide an educational and training pathway that fosters future advancement, given that knowledge is a transformative force that transcends boundaries.<\/p>\n

The PUP is a well-established institution in the national panorama of Penitentiary University Centres. The initiative’s origins can be traced back to May 2003<\/strong>, when an innovative memorandum of understanding was signed between the University of Pisa, the Regional Superintendent of Prison Administration, the Pisa Prison Management and the Region of Tuscany.<\/p>\n

Since 2008, the PUP has been dedicated to the memory of Prof.\u202fRenzo Corticelli<\/strong>, who with dedication and commitment helped found and guide this initiative in its early years.<\/p>\n

It has been part of the Polo Universitario Penitenziario della Toscana since 2010 and collaborates with the Universities of Florence, Siena and Siena for Foreigners. It actively involves prisons in Livorno, Volterra and Porto Azzurro, where detained students enrolled at the University of Pisa benefit from our services.\u202fThis synergy makes it possible to build bridges not only with the various prison administrations, but also with dynamic local voluntary organisations.<\/p>\n

Prisoners and inmates, both Italian and foreign, present in the Penitentiary Institutions affiliated to the Memoranda of Understanding, who meet the requirements provided for by law, may enrol. Prison students are entitled to various enrolment facilities.<\/p>\n

To collaborate with the Penitentiary University Centre<\/strong>: lecturers and students who wish to collaborate in the educational activities of the PUP can contact the rector\u2019s delegate:\u202fandrea.borghini@unipi.it<\/a>.<\/p>\n
