The\u00a0family reunification visa<\/strong>\u00a0allows entry into Italy, for the purposes of a long-term stay, to foreign nationals with a relative residing in Italy that intends to exercise their right to maintain or restore family unity.<\/p>\n

The visa for accompanying family members<\/strong> allows foreign nationals to enter Italy accompanied by their family members provided of such a visa.<\/p>\n

In order to obtain a family visa, foreign nationals must hold a special authorization, a clearance\u00a0<\/strong>(nulla osta) for\u00a0\u201caccompanying family member\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0\u201cfamily reunification\u201d<\/strong>, issued by the Sportello Unico per l\u2019Immigrazione at the Prefecture of their place of residence, and transmitted electronically directly to the Consular Offices. Before applying for a visa for accompanying family members it is necessary to apply for a clearance at the SUI – Sportello Unico Immigrazione<\/a> of the Prefecture in city where they are lodging.<\/p>\n

Among the requirements<\/strong> for a foreign citizen to obtain a nulla osta for accompanying family members<\/strong>, he\/she must also “hold<\/strong> an EU long-term residence permit or an entry visa<\/strong> for employment linked to a contract lasting at least 1 year<\/strong>, for non-occasional self-employment, study, religious reasons, or for scientific research regardless of the duration<\/strong>” (full details in italian language on the Tuscany Region website<\/a>).<\/p>\n

To request\u00a0 the clearance for family reunification<\/strong>, you must have accrued, at the time of the request, an uninterrupted\u00a0period of legal residence of at least two years<\/strong>\u00a0in the national territory.<\/p>\n

The issuance of the clearance must be requested, after registering with a\u00a0SPID<\/a>\u00a0digital identity, by filling in the appropriate forms on the\u00a0website of the Ministry of the Interior<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alternatively the applicant, if abroad, can appoint a delegate. The delegated person can be an Italian or foreign colleague, already in Italy, with a valid residence permit. For information on how to delegate you can contact the relevant Italian Embassy.<\/p>\n

Attention<\/strong>: it is not easy to obtain a clearance for accompanying family members so it is recommended to contact the Italian Embassy in your country of residence well in advance.
