Alternatively, non-EU citizens can go &#8211; <strong>personally<\/strong> &#8211; to Post Offices.\u00a0Before going to the assistance offices (Patronati\/Caf) you must have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/en\/about-us\/international-relations\/welcome-services\/entry-and-stay-information-for-non-eu-citizens\/tax-code\/\">tax code<\/a>\u00a0(codice fiscale). To get it, please apply at the Agenzia delle Entrate (Tax Office) once arrived in Italy. Attention: the only official tax code is the one issued by the Agenzia delle Entrate (in Pisa or Livorno or Lucca or any Agenzia delle Entrate in Italy). The residence permit validity will start from the day of entry in Italy<\/li>\n<li>A EUR 16 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/marca-da-bollo.pdf\">revenue stamp<\/a> &#8211; to be purchased at tobacconists or Post Offices<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>application form<\/strong> (form 209 module 1 found in the yellow kit) duly filled. The yellow kit is also available at the Patronages\/Caf<\/li>\n<li>An unexpired type D study visa is sufficient to send the application at the Post Office. Instead at the <strong>Questura<\/strong> (Police) <strong>appointment<\/strong> you must bring the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Enrollment-certificate.pdf\"><strong>Enrolment\/registration certificate<\/strong><\/a> (certificato di iscrizione). You can download it from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studenti.unipi.it\/Home.do\">Alice Portal<\/a> (<em>Menu &#8211; Secretariat &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/ALICE-certificates.pdf\">Certificates<\/a><\/em>) once completed your enrolment at the University of Pisa. The &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Self-declaration-Autodichiarazioni.pdf\">autodichiarazioni<\/a>&#8221; that you find on ALICE are <strong>not accepted by the Police<\/strong>. In case you are a non-EU Erasmus, exchange or visiting student, you must obtain a <strong>letter of acceptance<\/strong> &#8211; in italian language &#8211; from your department with the period of stay<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/en\/about-us\/international-relations\/welcome-services\/entry-and-stay-information-for-non-eu-citizens\/healthcare\/\">Health insurance coverage<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Certificate of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSU-winner-vincitore-1.pdf\">scholarship<\/a> allocation (if obtained) or proof of having adequate financial resources<\/li>\n<li>Tax code<\/li>\n<li><strong>Accommodation in Pisa<\/strong>: when submitting your application at the Post Office you can attach a temporary document, e.g. a hotel reservation, but at the Questura appointment you must bring the <strong>rental contract<\/strong> and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/TAX-OFFICE-AGENZIA-DELLE-ENTRATE-registration.pdf\">registration at the Tax Office<\/a> (Agenzia delle Entrate) OR the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poliziadistato.it\/statics\/18\/modulo-art7.pdf\">declaration of hospitality<\/a> sent by\u00a0<strong>PEC<\/strong> e-mail to the Police by who is hosting you OR a document issued by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSU-accommodation-statement.pdf\">DSU accommodation<\/a>, if you have won it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Italian mobile phone<\/strong> number (if you have) where you can receive any messages from the Police regarding your application.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong> copies of the above documents and the hard copy of the application Form (mod 209 module 1) must be included in the application at the Post Office.<\/p>\n<p>At the <strong>appointment with the Police<\/strong> (Questura) Officers, you will have to bring all documents already indicated and <strong>2<\/strong><b>\u00a0recent\u00a0<\/b>(passport size)<b>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Passport-size-photographs-on-a-white-background-1.pdf\">photographs<\/a>\u00a0<i>on a white background<\/i><\/b><i>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"b53 accordion-header\" id=\"accordion-0-t3\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"b53 accordion-button collapsed  text-wrap\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttype=\"button\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-toggle=\"collapse\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-target=\"#accordion-0-c3\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-expanded=\"false\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-controls=\"accordion-0-t3\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"b53-accordion-text\">Doctoral scholars<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-0-c3\" class=\"b53 accordion-collapse collapse\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-0-t3\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-bs-parent=\"#accordion-0\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>For the first release of the residence permit you must submit the same documents as a student, indicated above &#8211; enclosed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Enrolment-Registration-Certificate-for-Phd-scholars.pdf\"><strong>registration certificate<\/strong><\/a> (certificato di iscrizione), downloaded from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studenti.unipi.it\/Home.do\">Alice Portal<\/a> (<em>Menu &#8211; Secretariat &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/ALICE-certificates.pdf\">Certificates<\/a><\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>If your PhD Programme is officially registered in another University (for instance Florence) but your doctoral activities are in Pisa, the Police requires that the University where you are registered issue a registration certificate where it is stated that activities are carried out at the University of Pisa.<\/p>\n<p>For the renewal of the residence permit, follow instructions below but please notice that if you do not have the <strong>italian doctoral scholarship <\/strong>(for instance you have a CSC scholarship),\u00a0the Police requires<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>also<strong>\u00a0your\u00a0<\/strong>actual<strong>\u00a0italian bank account balance\u00a0with the list of movements<\/strong>\u00a0in the past couple of months (Online banks, for instance the Revolut, are admitted).<\/p>\n<p>Also the Police requires an <strong>o<\/strong><strong>fficial statement\u00a0<\/strong>about the\u00a0<strong>extension of the Phd<\/strong>, in case you have obtained it: the Police ask for official document stating the date of the thesis defence.<\/p>\n<p>After sending your residence permit application to the post office, if you wish to\u00a0<strong>move up the fingerprints appointment<\/strong> with the Police at Saint Anna Immigration Desk, send an email to: permessodisoggiorno@unipi.it. Please notice that Saint Anna Desk can just help you in providing fingerprints in advance. Once taken the fingerprints at Saint Anna, if all documents are fine, the Police will release the residence permit in about 60 days.<\/p>\n<p>In case you are a visiting doctoral student, you must submit a\u00a0<strong>letter of acceptance<\/strong> \u2013 in italian language \u2013 issued by your department with the period of stay, instead than the registration at the University of Pisa<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"b53 accordion-header\" id=\"accordion-0-t4\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"b53 accordion-button collapsed  text-wrap\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttype=\"button\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-toggle=\"collapse\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-target=\"#accordion-0-c4\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-expanded=\"false\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-controls=\"accordion-0-t4\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"b53-accordion-text\">The post office receipts<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-0-c4\" class=\"b53 accordion-collapse collapse\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-0-t4\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-bs-parent=\"#accordion-0\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Once filled the application, it must be sent by post through a Post Office which will issue two receipts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>one with <strong>the date of the appointment at the Questura<\/strong> for fingerprinting and document review<\/li>\n<li>the other where personal usernames and passwords are provided.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The two receipts are very important because they prove that the residence permit application has been submitted correctly and ensure the <strong>legality of the stay<\/strong> <strong>in Italy even it the visa is expired<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>By logging in to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.portaleimmigrazione.it\/ELI2ImmigrazioneWEB\/Pagine\/StartPage.aspx\"> Immigration Portal<\/a>, with the password and user ID (nome utente) found on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Post-office-receipt-password-and-user-id.pdf\">postal receipt<\/a> (do not include the hyphen), you can view the status of your application for a residence permit and any missing documents. Please notice that the Immigration Portal is updated very late.<\/p>\n<p>About the costs:<br \/>\nEUR 16.00 for the revenue stamp;<br \/>\nEUR 30.00 when sending the Application to the Post Office;<br \/>\nEUR 70.46 for the payment slip enclosed with the application for a residence permit issued up to a year.<\/p>\n<p>The residence permit post office receipt and the receipt for the payment of public (not private) health insurance allow you to go to a Health District to choose a general practitioner, so you will be entitled to all services for free and then you can collect your italian health card. For further information please see the chapter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/en\/about-us\/international-relations\/welcome-services\/entry-and-stay-information-for-non-eu-citizens\/healthcare\/\">Healthcare<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"b53 accordion-header\" id=\"accordion-0-t5\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"b53 accordion-button collapsed  text-wrap\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttype=\"button\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-toggle=\"collapse\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-target=\"#accordion-0-c5\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-expanded=\"false\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-controls=\"accordion-0-t5\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"b53-accordion-text\">Appointment at the Questura for fingerprinting and document review<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-0-c5\" class=\"b53 accordion-collapse collapse\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-0-t5\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-bs-parent=\"#accordion-0\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>At the appointment with the Police (Questura) Officers, you will have to bring all documents already indicated and <strong>2<\/strong><b>\u00a0recent\u00a0<\/b>(passport size)<b>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Passport-size-photographs-on-a-white-background-1.pdf\">photographs<\/a>\u00a0<i>on a white background<\/i><\/b><i>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>For the first release of the residence permit at the appointment the Police Officer will ask for your electronic signature on a special tablet and will take the fingerprinting of each of your fingers and the palm of your hands.<\/p>\n<p>After the fingerprints, if all documents are fine, the Police issues the residence permit<i> (in about 3-4 months in Pisa, because there are many requests &#8211; in a couple of months in other cities).<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The residence permit for study purposes allows, for its validity period, the performance of subordinate work activities (as employee, not self employed)\u00a0for a period not exceeding 20 hours per week, which may be cumulated for fifty-two weeks, without prejudice to the annual limit of 1,040 hours.\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"b53 accordion-header\" id=\"accordion-0-t6\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"b53 accordion-button collapsed  text-wrap\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttype=\"button\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-toggle=\"collapse\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-target=\"#accordion-0-c6\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-expanded=\"false\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-controls=\"accordion-0-t6\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"b53-accordion-text\">Withdrawal from studies and new enrolment<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-0-c6\" class=\"b53 accordion-collapse collapse\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-0-t6\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-bs-parent=\"#accordion-0\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\tIf you are a student who has arrived in Italy with a study visa and who is already enrolled at an Italian university, and you request to withdraw from studies (rinuncia agli studi) to re-enrol at the same or another university you cannot use the specific residence permit for study issued for your previous enrolment, so you will need a <strong>new study visa<\/strong>.\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"b53 accordion-header\" id=\"accordion-0-t7\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"b53 accordion-button collapsed  text-wrap\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttype=\"button\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-toggle=\"collapse\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-target=\"#accordion-0-c7\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-expanded=\"false\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-controls=\"accordion-0-t7\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"b53-accordion-text\">Renewal of the study residence permit<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-0-c7\" class=\"b53 accordion-collapse collapse\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-0-t7\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-bs-parent=\"#accordion-0\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The renewal request must be submitted <strong>at least ninety days before the residence permit expiration<\/strong>. You can apply for the renewal only if you have the previous permit. The costs for renewal are the same as for the first application for the residence permit.<\/p>\n<p>To renew a residence permit for study purposes (university enrollment), the Police Headquarters considers two main factors: the student&#8217;s current student status (whether or not the student is regularly enrolled in the current academic year) and the student&#8217;s situation in the previous academic year (whether the student was enrolled and passed the minimum number of exams required by Italian law).<\/p>\n<p>Residence permits for study purposes are renewed for students who:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have passed an <strong>assessment<\/strong> (verifica di profitto &#8211; an exam with credits) during the first academic year of the course<\/li>\n<li>have passed <strong>at least two assessments<\/strong> (two exams each academic year) during the following years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note: the &#8220;idoneit\u00e0&#8221; are not assessments (performance test &#8211; verifiche di profitto); academic years normally begin in September and end in September of the following year.<\/p>\n<p>For the renewal of the permit and its expiration, the Police consider the number of <strong>passed exams<\/strong>, the<strong> financial status<\/strong> and the <strong>duration of the health coverage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For serious health reasons or reasons of force majeure, duly documented, the permit can also be renewed for a student who has passed only one assessment, without prejudice to the total number of renewals.<\/p>\n<p>Residence permit renewals cannot be issued for more than<strong> three years beyond the duration of the study course<\/strong>.\u00a0The residency permit can be further renewed <strong>to obtain a postgraduate or a doctoral degree<\/strong>, for the entire duration of the course, renewable for one year.<\/p>\n<p>Some tips to avoid permit delays:<br \/>\n1) Always apply through the Patronati (Caf) and attach ALL the documentation required by the Police in the yellow kit at the post office. If anything is missing, the process will be halted. The yellow kit is also available at the Patronages\/Caf<\/li>\n<li>the <strong>2026\/2027<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Enrolment-certificate-with-EXAMS-and-DATES.pdf\"><b>registration certificate<\/b>\u00a0with\u00a0<b>exams and<\/b><b>\u00a0dates<\/b><\/a>\u00a0(<i>certificato d\u2019iscrizione con ESAMI e DATE) <\/i>for those enrolled in Bachelor&#8217;s and Master&#8217;s Degree courses. You can download from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studenti.unipi.it\/Home.do\">ALICE<\/a> (<em>Menu &#8211; Secretariat &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/ALICE-certificates-for-the-renewal.pdf\">Certificates<\/a><\/em>) by logging in with your credentials. The &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Self-declaration-Autodichiarazioni.pdf\">autodichiarazioni<\/a>&#8221; on ALICE are <strong>not accepted by the Police<\/strong>. PhD students can download the<strong> Certificate of registration<\/strong> from Alice Portal for the current academic year (without the exam list).<\/li>\n<li>health insurance coverage: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/en\/about-us\/international-relations\/welcome-services\/entry-and-stay-information-for-non-eu-citizens\/healthcare\/\">Italian health card OR private insurance policy<\/a> accepted by the Police Headquarters. For the renewal of the residence permit and its expiration, the Police consider also the <strong>duration of the health coverage<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>at the Police appointment you must bring a printed copy of your <strong>italian bank account balance <\/strong>with the list of movements<strong> in the past couple of months. <\/strong>Online banks, for instance the Revolut, are admitted. Poste Pay bank balance is accepted. Also is fine the DSU message of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSU-winner-vincitore-1.pdf\">scholarship allocation<\/a> to the current academic year where it is stated that you are a winner (&#8220;<b>vincitore<\/b>&#8221; or &#8220;<b>beneficiario<\/b>&#8220;, not &#8220;idoneo&#8221; that means eligible).<\/li>\n<li><strong>accommodation in Pisa<\/strong> (<strong>rental contract<\/strong>, and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/TAX-OFFICE-AGENZIA-DELLE-ENTRATE-registration.pdf\">registration at the Tax Office<\/a>, OR the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poliziadistato.it\/statics\/18\/modulo-art7.pdf\">declaration of hospitality<\/a> sent by <strong>PEC<\/strong> e-mail to the Police by who is hosting you OR a document issued by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSU-accommodation-statement.pdf\">DSU accommodation<\/a>, if you have won it).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Italian mobile phone<\/strong> number where you can receive any message from the Police regarding your application.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>At the appointment with the Questura Officers, you will have to bring all documents above indicated and <b>2 recent\u00a0<\/b>(passport size)<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Passport-size-photographs-on-a-white-background-1.pdf\"><b> photographs <i>on a white background<\/i><\/b><\/a><i>. <\/i>The Police Officer will ask for your electronic signature on a special tablet and will take the fingerprinting of only your index fingers (both hands).<\/p>\n<p>After the fingerprints, if all documents are fine, the Police issues the residence permit (<i>in about 3-4 months in Pisa, because there are many requests &#8211; in a couple of months in other cities).<\/i><\/p>\n<p>By logging in to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.portaleimmigrazione.it\/ELI2ImmigrazioneWEB\/Pagine\/StartPage.aspx\"> Immigration Portal<\/a>, with the password and user ID (nome utente) found on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/Post-office-receipt-password-and-user-id.pdf\">postal receipt<\/a> (do not include the hyphen), you can view the status of your application for a residence permit and any missing documents.\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"b53 accordion-header\" id=\"accordion-0-t9\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"b53 accordion-button collapsed  text-wrap\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttype=\"button\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-toggle=\"collapse\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-target=\"#accordion-0-c9\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-expanded=\"false\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-controls=\"accordion-0-t9\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"b53-accordion-text\">Change of Study Course (Passaggio di Corso)<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-0-c9\" class=\"b53 accordion-collapse collapse\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-0-t9\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-bs-parent=\"#accordion-0\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Also in the event of a change of course of study, with a transfer from one course to another (Passaggio di Corso), residence permits for study purposes are renewed for students who:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have passed an\u00a0<strong>assessment<\/strong>\u00a0(verifica di profitto \u2013 an exam with credits) during the first academic year of the course<\/li>\n<li>have passed\u00a0<strong>at least two assessments<\/strong> (two exams each academic year) during the following years. \t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<i>\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"b53 accordion-header\" id=\"accordion-0-t10\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"b53 accordion-button collapsed  text-wrap\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttype=\"button\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-toggle=\"collapse\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-target=\"#accordion-0-c10\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-expanded=\"false\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-controls=\"accordion-0-t10\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"b53-accordion-text\">Travelling for your Country or for study mobility abroad<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-0-c10\" class=\"b53 accordion-collapse collapse\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-0-t10\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-bs-parent=\"#accordion-0\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To travel to your Country and then return to Italy you must have a valid and <strong>unexpired Italian multi-entry visa<\/strong>,<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>the expired Italian residence permit;<\/li>\n<li>The post office receipt for the renewal of the residence permit <strong>not expired<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Do <strong>NOT<\/strong> transit through European countries (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/policies\/schengen-area\/\">Schengen Countries<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To travel to a European Country (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/policies\/schengen-area\/\">Schengen)<\/a> you must have a valid and <strong>not expired<\/strong> residence permit. If you need to go to another country for a <strong>mobility period<\/strong> (Erasmus or thesis abroad, or other) and your residence permit expires while you&#8217;re abroad, apply for renewal
