The research project includes a structured set of educational and training activities to prepare highly qualified researchers capable of addressing the complexities of engineering for sustainable development. It focuses on innovative and internationally relevant areas that require a multidisciplinary approach.<\/p>\n<p>The PhD programme also covers topics related to Big Data and Industry 4.0, as evidenced by the academic interests of the members of the Academic Board and the doctoral research topics of many current students.<\/p>\n<p>The broad range of scientific skills and research activities, along with the programme\u2019s multidisciplinary nature, is reflected in the list of thematic areas into which it is structured, grouped under the following disciplinary fields: Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Management and Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urban Planning. This breadth, combined with the variety of laboratory facilities, provides a stimulating environment for students to study and carry out research.<\/p>\n<p>The departmental structure also supports students in undertaking research stays abroad or at other qualified institutions in Italy.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Course objectives<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The PhD Programme in Energy, Systems, Land and Construction Engineering at the University of Pisa aims to provide students with in-depth, multidisciplinary scientific training for the development of high-level research activities in the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Energy engineering<\/strong>: including electrical engineering, energy systems, applied thermodynamics, machinery and systems for energy and the environment, and measurement techniques;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Systems engineering<\/strong>: with a focus on economic and management engineering, both in terms of system design and the economic, organisational and technological aspects;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Territorial engineering<\/strong>: including urban and regional planning and design, hydraulic, technological and infrastructural networks, hydrology and hydraulic risk management, pollution in environmental systems and environmental impact assessment;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Construction engineering<\/strong>: covering hydraulic engineering and structures, environmental and sanitary engineering, structural engineering, architectural design, planning and technology, drawing, restoration and the history of architecture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The research project includes a structured programme of training activities aimed at preparing qualified experts capable of addressing the complexities of engineering for sustainable development in innovative, high-impact, internationally relevant fields that require multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches<strong>.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The PhD programme also covers topics related to Big Data and Industry 4.0, as evidenced by the academic interests of the members of the Academic Board and the doctoral research topics of many current students.<\/p>\n<p>The broad range of scientific skills and research activities, along with the programme\u2019s multidisciplinary nature, is reflected in the list of thematic areas into which it is structured, grouped under the following disciplinary fields: Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Management and Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urban Planning.
