The programme aligns with the most dynamic areas of the current international debate and covers all the major fields related to philosophical research. It includes four distinct curricula (History of Philosophy; Logic, Philosophy and History of Science; Ethics, Politics and Religions; Theoretical, Aesthetic and Philosophy of Language) offering comprehensive and flexible training that responds to the diverse needs of philosophical research.

The collaboration between the University of Pisa and the University of Florence enables the creation of a PhD Board with expertise across all fields of philosophical research. Thanks to the breadth and depth of its competencies and perspectives, the PhD in Philosophy positions itself as a key point of reference for similar PhD programmes both in Italy and abroad.

The main objective of the PhD is to train scholars who, supported by a comprehensive foundation in all areas of philosophy, can offer original and innovative contributions in one or more specialised fields. At the same time, candidates are encouraged to explore the connections between contemporary philosophical debate and disciplines such related to arts and humanities, social sciences, mathematical, physical and natural sciences, and technology. The aim is to train researchers capable of critical thinking and interdisciplinary innovation.

Philosophical research has always been characterised by its interdisciplinary nature and its attention to the research methods of different fields of knowledge. Accordingly, another key objective of the programme is to promote the development of cross-disciplinary knowledge and skills by fostering dialogue with a wide range of academic disciplines.

Curricula
• History of Philosophy
• Ethics, Politics and Religions
• Theoretical, Aesthetic and Philosophy of Language
• Logic, Philosophy and History of Science

Scientific-disciplinary areas
Special Education and Pedagogy
Aesthetics
Philosophy and Theory of Language
Moral Philosophy
Political Philosophy
Theoretical Philosophy
Logic and Philosophy of Science
History of Philosophy
Ancient Philosophy
Medieval Philosophy
History of Science and Technology
History of Political Thought

Website
https://phd-filosofia.cfs.unipi.it/

Coordinator Prof. Simonetta Bassi email: simonetta.bassi@unipi.it Administrative seat Department of Civilisations and Forms of Knowledge Project description and objectives The PhD in Philosophy, jointly offered by the Universities of Pisa and Florence, is designed to train candidates to conduct high-level philosophical research in both academic institutions and public or private research organisations.
