Many members of the Department are internationally recognised for their research contributions and maintain an extensive network of scientific collaborations. Notably, there is a strong scientific connection with the Scuola Normale Superiore, one of the world&#8217;s leading institutions for mathematical research.<\/p>\n<p>The Department hosts several high-level research groups, ranging from those active in the most theoretical fields\u2014such as Logic, Algebra, Geometry, and Analysis\u2014to those more open to applications and\/or interactions with industry and society, including Probability, Mathematical Physics, Numerical Analysis, Mathematics Education, and the History of Mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>Enhancing the PhD programme is a central goal of the Department of Excellence project, currently underway in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Pisa for the 2023\u20132027 period.<\/p>\n<p>Given all these factors, the PhD programme offers students a broad and high-quality range of academic and research opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The PhD in Mathematics aims to provide capable and motivated students with high-level training and to guide them towards research across all areas ranging from pure to applied mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>To this end, students can choose from a wide range of courses offered by the Doctoral School and taught by faculty members, their internationally recognised collaborators, and visiting lecturers involved in applied mathematics projects within the local area. In addition, students can attend advanced courses offered by both the Department of Mathematics of the University of Pisa and the Scuola Normale Superiore.<\/p>\n<p>These are complemented by a rich programme of seminars, conferences, and summer schools organised by both institutions, as well as by the Centro di Ricerca Matematica \u201cE. De Giorgi\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Research training also includes integration into a robust international environment, which is naturally facilitated by the Department\u2019s extensive scientific collaborations.<\/p>\n<p>Students are encouraged to attend international scientific events and to plan research visits abroad.
