Submission of the Thesis to the Academic Board<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c2\" class=\"b53 accordion-collapse collapse\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-1-t2\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-bs-parent=\"#accordion-1\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The thesis must also be submitted <strong>by the end of the third year<\/strong> (normally by <strong>31 October<\/strong>, in the case of programmes with a deferred start date, as mentioned above), in accordance with the procedures established by the relevant PhD Programme.<\/p>\n<p>Following its evaluation, the Academic Board may:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>authorise (or refuse to authorise) the submission of the thesis to the assessors<\/li>\n<li>grant a maximum extension of two months<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is important to remain in contact with the Coordinator or Supervisors in order to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>receive the outcome of the assessors\u2019 evaluation of the thesis<\/li>\n<li>receive instructions on how to forward the thesis to the Examination Committee<\/li>\n<li>receive information on the date and arrangements for the defence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"b53 accordion-header\" id=\"accordion-1-t3\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"b53 accordion-button collapsed  text-wrap\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttype=\"button\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-toggle=\"collapse\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-bs-target=\"#accordion-1-c3\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-expanded=\"false\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-controls=\"accordion-1-t3\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"b53-accordion-text\">3. Before the Thesis Defence<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c3\" class=\"b53 accordion-collapse collapse\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-1-t3\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-bs-parent=\"#accordion-1\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>At least <strong>3 days before the defence<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>generate the <strong>electronic cover page<\/strong> on <a href=\"https:\/\/etd.adm.unipi.it\/\">ETD<\/a>, manually entering the expected date of the defence<\/li>\n<li>upload the following to ETD:\n<ul>\n<li>the <strong>complete, <\/strong><strong>final version of the thesis<\/strong> (in the language approved by the Academic Board) and an <strong>abstract<\/strong> in Italian or English (in PDF\/A format)<\/li>\n<li>a <strong>report detailing the activities undertaken during the PhD programme<\/strong>, written by the PhD candidate (in PDF\/A format). Important: do not upload the report signed by the Coordinator, as this document can only be issued after the final examination<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>upload to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.studenti.unipi.it\/Home.do;jsessionid=F055914542EEB1FC51F5DA1DB3A0DA00?cod_lingua=eng\">Alice Portal<\/a><\/strong> the <strong>electronic cover page<\/strong> in PDF format, generated by ETD and digitally signed by the Supervisor: \u201cSegreteria\u201d \u2192 \u201cCarriera\u201d \u2192 \u201cAllegati carriera\u201d \u2192 upload the file. It may be signed using a digital signature (recommended) or a scanned handwritten signature accompanied by a valid identity documentFor technical issues with ETD (access, file uploads, etc.), please contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/etd.adm.unipi.it\/ETD-db\/ETD-browse\/send_staff_email\">ETD Staff<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>: restrictions on thesis accessibility may be imposed by current regulations or chosen by the author in agreement with the Supervisor. For PhD theses, ETD provides two accessibility options, depending on third-party rights and other restrictions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>thesis freely accessible<\/li>\n<li>thesis subject to a three-year embargo from the date of the defence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"b53 class=\"b53-accordion-text\">Exclusion from the PhD Programme<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c4\" class=\"b53 accordion-collapse collapse\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-1-t4\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-bs-parent=\"#accordion-1\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"b53 accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The Academic Board may decide to exclude a PhD candidate from the PhD Programme in the event of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>failure to submit the thesis within the established deadlines<\/li>\n<li>unjustified absence from the final examination<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Where documented reasons are provided, an extension of up to 18 months may be
