This i<strong>nnovative workplace surveillance system was developed by the Department of Information Engineering<\/strong> at the University of Pisa within the CrossLab laboratories at the Navacchio technology hub.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-450530\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/caschetto1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/caschetto1.jpeg 900w, https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/caschetto1-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/caschetto1-768x512.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A network of video cameras monitors workers and instantly identifies the presence or absence of wearable safety equipment. \u201c<strong>If mandatory equipment is missing, the system can immediately shut down the machines<\/strong>,\u201d explains<strong> Carlo Vallati, Professor of Computer Engineering<\/strong> at the University of Pisa. \u201cIt could be a helmet or a high-visibility jacket: if the system detects a worker who does not comply with safety requirements, it sends a <strong>visual or an audible alert, shuts down the machine or restricts access to a dangerous area<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Consisting of a small video camera and a local data analysis device, the system can be positioned near dangerous machinery or in situations involving moving vehicles. Pietro Ducange, from Computer Engineering, adds: \u201cIn this case, the safety distance can also be configured, as well as the area to be monitored. Specific devices can also be selected for monitoring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the screen connected to the camera, the worker\u2019s silhouette is outlined in different colours depending on the situation: red if a breach of the company\u2019s safety requirements is detected, green if the equipment is compliant.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-450532\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/caschetto2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/caschetto2.jpeg 900w, https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/caschetto2-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/caschetto2-768x512.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe CrossLabs in Navacchio are interdisciplinary laboratories based on two pillars,\u201d explains <strong>Simone Genoves<\/strong>i, a professor in the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Pisa and the project coordinator. \u201cThe first pillar is Industry 4.0, i.e. enabling technologies that are already available. The second pillar is Industry 5.0, i.e. everything related to technology and personal services.
