The <\/span>DETAILLs Lab<\/span><\/a> DETAILLs Lab<\/strong> at the University of Pisa was one of the winners of the Mario Raffa Award for Public Engagement and Social Impact<\/strong>, which is promoted by the Italian Association of Management Engineering (AiIG) to recognise the best Third Mission initiatives of Italian universities. The award ceremony took place in Udine on 6 February during the AiIG\u2019s annual meeting.<\/p>\n

Dedicated to the memory of Professor Mario Raffa, former president of AiIG, the award recognises projects that translate academic research into tangible societal value through public engagement, academic entrepreneurship, open science, social inclusion, and contributions to the objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda.<\/p>\n

DETAILLs was recognised for its commitment to sharing and co-creating knowledge on artificial intelligence, as well as for its ability to promote open dialogue between academia, civil society, businesses, institutions, and citizens<\/strong>. The laboratory stands out for its interdisciplinary approach, combining scientific research with a strong focus on the social, economic, and cultural impacts of emerging technologies.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018This recognition confirms the path we have taken over the last year,\u2019 commented Filippo Chiarello<\/strong>, head of the laboratory. \u2018DETAILLs was created with the aim of bringing reflection on AI outside academia and building spaces for critical and inclusive discussion on a technology that is as promising as it is complex.\u2019<\/p>\n

The award recognises the work of a large, multidisciplinary research group. \u2018It is a collective achievement,\u2019 Chiarello emphasised, \u2018and I would like to thank Vito Giordano, Chiara Lelli, Diana Domenichini, Alessandra Serra, Andrea Bonaccorsi, Simone Ferrini and Alessandro Guadagni, with whom we share a vision, method and commitment. We would also like to thank all those who have passed through the laboratory in its first year and those who will do so in future. This award is a further incentive to continue working in this direction.\u2019<\/p>\n

Filippo Chiarello also expressed his gratitude to the AiIG and its former president, Pierpaolo Pontrandolfo. \u2018With initiatives such as this, our scientific community demonstrates that it truly believes in the value of the Third Mission as an integral part of the university\u2019s role.\u2019<\/p>\n

Based at the Department of Energy, Systems, Territory and Construction Engineering (DESTEC) at the University of Pisa and operating in collaboration with the School of Engineering, DETAILLs has become a leading research, public engagement and training hub for artificial intelligence and innovation policies.
