Professor Dino Pedreschi<\/strong>, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Pisa, has been appointed Vice-Chair of the European working group<\/strong> responsible for developing the Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content<\/strong><\/a>,<\/strong> as part of the EU Artificial Intelligence Regulation (AI Act).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Promoted by the European AI Office of the European Commission, the Code of Practice aims to establish operational guidelines for the marking and labelling of content generated by artificial intelligence systems \u2014 such as text, images, audio and video \u2014 to make them clearly recognisable as such<\/strong>. The Code will support the implementation of the transparency obligations set out in Article 50 of the AI Act, which requires providers and users of generative models to indicate when content has been artificially produced, in order to combat disinformation and strengthen public trust in AI technologies.<\/p>\n

The working group<\/a> brings together academic experts, industry representatives and civil society organisations from across Europe. As Vice-Chair, Professor Pedreschi will help coordinate the work dedicated to generative AI model providers and contribute to defining good practices for transparency and accountability in next-generation systems.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Code of Practice on transparency of AI-generated content will be a voluntary tool designed to help providers of generative AI systems comply with their transparency obligations,\u201d explains Professor Pedreschi<\/strong>. \u201cIt will support the labelling of AI-generated content \u2014 including synthetic audio, images, video and text \u2014 in machine-readable formats to ensure detectability. It will also help those who use deepfakes or AI-generated content to clearly disclose AI involvement, particularly when informing the public on matters of general interest.\u201d<\/p>\n

On 5 November 2025, the European Commission announced the appointment of the Chairs and Vice-Chairs, marking the official start of the group\u2019s work. The first draft of the Code of Practice is expected to be presented in the coming months.<\/p>\n
