Upon completion, students are awarded both the French degree from \u00c9cole Polytechnique and the Italian Master\u2019s Degree in Physics from the University of Pisa.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_198463\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-198463\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-198463 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/POLYTECHNIQUE-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/POLYTECHNIQUE-5.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/POLYTECHNIQUE-5-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/POLYTECHNIQUE-5-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-198463\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00c9cole Polytechnique<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Active since 2011, the partnership has expanded over the years through a range of joint scientific and academic initiatives. Launched in 2016, the double degree agreement is a concrete example of European cooperation in higher education.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1794 as the \u201c\u00c9cole centrale des travaux publics\u201d and later militarised by Napoleon in 1804, \u00c9cole Polytechnique \u2013 often referred to as \u201cl\u2019X\u201d \u2013 is one of most prestigious <em>grandes \u00e9coles<\/em> in France. It is renowned for its rigorous education in engineering, physics, and mathematics, and has played a crucial role in shaping France\u2019s scientific and technical elite. Today, the \u00c9cole Polytechnique combines academic tradition, cutting-edge research, and a strong international outlook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI supported this agreement from the very beginning, knowing the high standard of physics and mathematics training at l\u2019X,\u201d says Professor <strong>Francesco Califano<\/strong>, a physicist at the University of Pisa who was involved in designing the programme from the outset, drawing on his existing collaboration with the Plasma Physics Laboratory (LPP) at \u00c9cole Polytechnique. \u201cThe double degree offers students the chance to experience different educational systems and teaching methods. Each year, I present this opportunity to our students not only for its academic value, but also as a way to experience another country and culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mario Di Luca<\/strong> was among the first students to obtain the double degree from the University of Pisa and \u00c9cole Polytechnique. After completing his Bachelor\u2019s Degree Course in Physics in Pisa, he chose to continue studying abroad and in 2018 he successfully applied to the French programme. That same year, the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Physics to Professor G\u00e9rard Mourou, a lecturer at the \u00c9cole Polytechnique, provided him with an additional source of inspiration.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_198468\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-198468\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-198468 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/mario-di_luca.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/mario-di_luca.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/mario-di_luca-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/mario-di_luca-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-198468\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mario Di Luca<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After completing the double degree in 2021, Di Luca went on to pursue a PhD in Physics at EPFL in Lausanne. Reflecting on his international experience, he notes that it took place \u201cwithin the framework of European Union values and educational models,\u201d allowing him to explore different approaches to the same field of knowledge and thus broaden his scientific perspective. \u201cBeing able to look at the same topic from multiple angles,\u201d he concludes, \u201cis one of the most important keys
