The E-Team Racing Team unveils its new electric vehicle ET-17 in Piazza dei Cavalieri

The first race is scheduled at the end of the month in Portugal, at the Castelo Branco kart track

On Friday 11 July, ET-17 was officially unveiled in Pisa’s Piazza dei Cavalieri. It is the third electric vehicle designed and built by E-Team Squadra Corse, the University of Pisa’s Formula Student team, which has been active since 2007.

The event attracted a large audience and saw the participation of the team’s partner companies, several representatives from the University of Pisa and the Municipality of Pisa. Faculty Advisor Professor Francesco Bucchi was also in attendance, as was Professor Massimo Guiggiani, a key figure in academic motorsport.

The presentation marked the first ‘pit stop’ in what promises to be a busy summer season for the team. ET-17 will compete in three major international events: the first at the Castelo Branco kart track in Portugal, from 27 July to 1 August; the second at the renowned Hockenheim circuit in Germany, from 17 to 24 August — a regular part of the Pisa-based team’s annual calendar; and the third and final event of the season will be Formula SAE Italy in Varano de’ Melegari, from 10 to 15 September.

From the outset, 2025 has proved to be a challenging year — partly due to the usual generational turnover — but the team has once again demonstrated its ability to overcome these challenges through determination and teamwork. Following the 2023 debut of their first electric single-seater, ET-17 represents another significant milestone for the team.

The result of months of hard work and dedication, the new vehicle features a carbon monocoque developed in collaboration with the team’s main sponsor, HP Composites, as well as a new high-voltage battery that was entirely designed by the team within the university. ET-17 stands as a symbol of the synergy between education and experimentation, between university and industry, between theory and practice.

This year, the team is led by new Team Leader Maria Gabriella Palomba and supported by Management Directors Ludovica Chelazzi and Lorenzo Mocciola, Layout Manager Leonardo Stefanini, and Technical Directors Matteo Raffaelli and Alessio Lippi.
