The University of Pisa has 25 subjects listed in the 2026 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), the international subject ranking compiled by Shanghai Ranking. Six are ranked among the world’s top 100, with Veterinary Sciences reaching 27th place worldwide and third place in Italy.

In addition to Veterinary Sciences, Mathematics, Robotic Science & Engineering and Aerospace Engineering rank in the 51–75 band, while Agricultural Sciences and Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences are in the 76–100 band. Compared with the 2025 edition, the performance of Agricultural Sciences is particularly significant, moving from the 101–150 band to 76–100 and thus entering the global top 100 for the subject. Mathematics also improves, rising from the 76–100 band to 51–75.
Other notable improvements include Telecommunication Engineering, which moves from the 151–200 band to 101–150, and Chemistry, which rises from 301–400 to 201–300. Two subjects also enter the ranking in 2026: Geography, in the 151–200 band, and Statistics, in the 201–300 band.
Energy Science & Engineering and Physics are also among the University of Pisa’s subjects in the global top 150, both ranking in the 101–150 band. Medical Technology, alongside Geography, ranks in the 151–200 band.
At national level, in addition to Veterinary Sciences in third place, Mathematics ranks in the 1–4 band among Italian universities, as does Energy Science & Engineering. Robotic Science & Engineering ranks in the national 2–4 band.
