Ecoesione, a new strategic board game designed to raise awareness about sustainability, made its official debut at PLAY 2025, Italy’s largest tabletop gaming convention, held in Bologna from April 4 to 6.

Developed by a team of economists from the University of Pisa’s Department of Economics and Management, in collaboration with game designers from the Bologna-based association Golem’s Lab, Ecoesione challenges players to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while managing natural resources responsibly and avoiding overreliance on fossil fuels.

Ecoesione is more than just a board game — it’s an educational tool designed to help people understand the urgency of ecological transition,” said Simone D’Alessandro, professor of economics at the University of Pisa and one of the game’s creators. “Our goal is to spark reflection on environmental challenges in an engaging and accessible way, using the universal language of play.”

With its innovative and educational approach, Ecoesione is aimed at students, families, and board game enthusiasts alike, promoting greater awareness of individual and collective actions toward a more sustainable future.
