Rocco Palermo is a Researcher (RTD) at the University of Pisa and an Affiliate Research Fellow at Harvard University (USA). Previously he held the position of post-doctoral researcher at the University of Groningen (Netherlands). He defended his Ph.D. with a co-tutored dissertation between Naples and Paris I. He is currently Director of the gMAP Archaeological Project at the site of Gird-i Matrab in Iraqi Kurdistan and Associate Director of the Erbil Plain Archaeological Survey (Iraqi Kurdistan, Harvard University). He has carried out extensive fieldwork in the Middle East (Syria, Jordan, Iraq), where he explores the formation and development of imperial landscapes through the archaeological record. He is the author of On the Edge of Empires. North Mesopotamia during the Roman Period (Routledge, 2019).
