CoSA has launched the “Towards a Smoke-Free University 2028” campaign, demonstrating a concrete commitment to transforming the University into a healthier, safer and more sustainable environment, in line with Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-being. Between 2025 and 2026, the University will reinforce the smoking ban in outdoor areas, cloisters and at building entrances to comply with the law and to protect non-smokers.
At the same time, as part of the “Smoke Signals” project, smart smoking areas will be introduced where cigarette butts will be collected and recycled, thanks to a commercial partnership with the start-up Human Maple, which transforms filters into reusable materials.
The ultimate goal is to achieve a completely smoke-free campus by 2028, both indoors and outdoors, cleating clean spaces for studying, socialising and enjoying university life without compromising health. This initiative combines regulatory compliance, innovation and environmental responsibility, reducing soil and water pollution, raising awareness within the University community and marking a concrete step towards a more sustainable and inclusive future.
