The stay permit for study
Foreign students arriving in Italy are obliged, like all the other non-European citizens, within 8 days from entry, to present themselves at the Police Headquarters (Questura) to fix two appointments: the first one for the photo-registration, which in Pisa takes between 7 and 15 days, and the second one for presentation of the documentation that is necessary to obtain the stay permit, which takes between 15 to 20 days.
It is not required to have already taken the University entrance exams to make these appointments.
The student which has passed the entrance exams at University and has the visa for study, can proceed with enrolment, demonstrating to University Student Office to have already the appointment at Immigration Office for the request of the stay permit.
If the foreign student has not passed the entrance exams, he is obliged to return to his/her own country of origin, after having made a declaration at the police headquarters that the stay permit is no longer required.
