Biographical Summary

Riccardo Grasso was born in Catania in 1956, where he completed his Advanced Level Certificate Studies at 'N. Spedalieri', graduating in Law from the University of Catania in 1980. In 1982 he gained the qualification for the practice of attorney at the Court of Appeal of Catania.

He has won various competitions, including the following:
National examinations contest for advisor of the administrative directive career of the university secretarial offices promoted by the Ministry of Education (1982); Examination contest for the role of manager at the Scuola Normale Superiore at Pisa (1996).

Professional appointments and activities within the university sphere:
Between 1982 and 1998 he was appointed by the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, holding the following titles:

Manager of the General Affairs Office (legal, agreements and contracts, regulations and scientific research) as well as the Office of International Relations and European Community Programmes from 1982 to 1998;
Director of the administrative organisation of courses and university guidance from 1993 to 1995 ;
Administrative Vice-Director from Jan. 1994 to Feb. 1998;
Manager of Administration for institutional activities (student secretary office, general and legal affairs and contractual procedures) from Apr. 1996 to Feb. 1998;
Member of numerous Study Committees regarding, amongst other things, the application of Law 168/1989 and Legislative Decree 29/1993, defining of the staff organisation chart and work duties, missions' regulations, regulations for third parties' activities, Statute, and the administrative-accounting, didactic and organisation regulations.

Since 1998 he has held office at the University of Pisa with the following titles:

Administration Department Manager for institutional activities (Feb. 1998 - Mar. 2003);
Administrative Vice-Director (Jan.1999 - Mar. 2003);
Administrative Director (since Apr. 2003 -).

Other activities:

He has been Member of the Board of Directors and Committee for personnel at the Scuola Normale Superiore;
A Member of the Administrative Directorate and Secretary of the Giorgio Pasquali Foundation, that grants scholarships to young graduates every year;
He is Secretary of the Collegio Puteano Foundation that annually grants scholarships to young undergraduates of the University of Pisa;
He has carried out external consultance in matters of public contracts (Monuments and Fine Arts Office of Pisa, Province of Lucca);
He has run training courses for technical-administrative personnel;
He is engaged in activities related to Communication, Public Relations, the service chart and quality certification.
