University Youth Orchestra

The Univeristy Youth Orchestra's fourth symphonic season began November 29th. This extremely recent formation, that came about almost for fun four years ago, with already an experience of collaborations with the most important city musical institutions and international level soloists, is progressively consolidating as an important reference point for all the Pisan professional musicians and music enthusiasts.

Founded in January 2002 as a student association by seven students, all holders of academy of music diplomas, after a mere two months already numbered more than 30 musician members, and began to rehearse under the still present guidance of conductor Francesco Pasqualetti, also a university student.

The following two years are marked by the tackling of demanding symphonic works (Mozart's Symphony n°40 k. 550, Schubert's "Unfinished" and Third symphony, Beethoven's "Coriolano" etc.) and exceptional collaborations such as with the Paolo Giolo Maestros and Ilaria Schettini (National Symphony Orchestra of the RAI of Turin) Nicola Lolli (Wiener Philarmonhiker) and Stefano Mancuso.

From 2003 the Orchestra has also worked with the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa's "Vincenzo Galilei' Choir, with whom it has realized the performances of Brahm's profane cantatas "Schiksalslied" op.54 and "Naenie" op.82, and from 2004 with the University Choir, with whom it has released a CD that includes Mozart's "Coronation Mass" and Schubert's Third Symphony.

However, particular attention to 20th century music characterizes the parallel chamber season, that has witnessed the realization of pieces such as B. Britten's "Simple Symphony" or Weil's " Suite from The Threepenny Opera ".

The guiding thread of the musical programming has always been that of drawing together renowned works with lesser known masterpieces of the grand repertoire of the 19th century.
