Accident insurance for students

The University of Pisa has taken out an accident insurance policy covering University students since 1998. This is a wide covering insurance that besides overseeing basic security in the event of an accident also covers medical costs and provides a daily allowance in the case of hospitalization or immobilization of one or more limbs.

Who is insured torna su

This policy covers 'students', a category considered in a very broad sense, including: undergraduates, trainees, students of specialization courses, scholarship holders, doctorate and post-doctorate students, receivers of research grants, foreign students, subject experts and authorised external attenders.

What, how and where is coveredtorna su

Given that this is an accident insurance, it only covers the damaging consequences resulting from an accident and not, therefore, for example those deriving from an illness.

Those included in the category of student are automatically covered by the insurance:

All activities within other institutions (universities, research organisations, companies etc.) with no geographical limit, are covered by the insurance if:

*this means the faculty dean, the department principal, the head of the course of study etc.

Cover and limitstorna su

The basic cover is:

in the event of death: 258.228,45 Euro
in the event of permanent invalidity: 258.228,45 Euro

The compensation for permanent invalidity is calculated using a system of exemptions that tends to penalize permanent injury with low levels of invalidity, while favouring more serious cases.

Certain additional cover is also provided:

What to do in the event of an accident torna su

If the accident occurs within a scientific, didactic or service structure (faculty, department, interdepartmental centre, etc...) it is necessary to refer to the structure's administrative secretary as soon as possible and provide him/her with:

If the accident occurs outside one of the mentioned structures, refer, with the above indicated documentation, to:

Università di Pisa
Dipartimento I Didattica e Ricerca
Ufficio "Studenti e laureati"
Via Fermi 8, 56126 PISA

referent: sig. Roberto Pasquini o sig.ra Franca Montagnani

fax 050 2212001
e-mail: http://adm11196/english/students/studentser/mailto.r.pasquini@adm.unipi.it; f.montagnani@adm.unipi.it

The student must follow the prescribed treatment and retain receipts, invoices and other relevant material as a record of the expenses sustained.

If the recovery is extended it is necessary to send medical certificates on the course of injuries at least every 60 days to the above address.

How to make a claim torna su

The accident can conclude in two ways:

a) complete recovery
in this event refer directly to the SAI:

SAI - Società Assicuratrice Industriale
Agenzia Generale Pisa Nord
via A. Battelli 3
56127 Pisa
Tel. +39 50 972411 Fax +39 50 580466

providing a certificate of full recovery in order to claim reimbursement of expenses.

b) recovery with after effects
in this case the student must be visited by a medical doctor assigned by the insurance company to assess the nature of the permanent injuries. This visit usually takes place after about six months so that the damages raised can be considered permanent.

After this the SAI will propose compensation for the permanent injury and reimbursement of treatment expenses sustained.
